02427: Unexpected

Christmas with the Abads

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 27

Yesterday, Tobie's Dad passed away. It was all very sudden and quite unexpected, especially with everything else going on.

Earlier during the quarantine period, Tobie and I had talked about what a challenging scenario it would be to have a death in the family at this time given the constraints on travel. I don't think either of us had anticipated needing to deal with all the checkpoints and such. But that's exactly what Tobie ended up needing to do.

His dad was a nice guy and we shared a love for Star Trek, which is one of the interesting things I found out about him early on. He was always a bit of a joker and I get that Tobie's sense of humor clearly came from him. I'm glad that I got to visit over the holidays as we had enjoyable conversations across Christmas and New Year.

He will be dearly missed.

So now I'm watching over the Sietch alone while Tobie sees about his dad's passing for now. The COVID-19 restrictions have limited funeral arrangements to immediate family, which is rather sad given the outpouring of love visible on Facebook over the past 24 hours. I'm sure many people would have wanted to pay their respects to him as he has touched so many lives over the years. But even without them physically present, I'm sure he knows how much so many people miss him and hope for the best for him.
