02844: Lost in America

I know we're only four episodes into this second season of American Gods, but I can't help but feel that things are moving a little too slowly for my tastes. Slow may not even be the correct term - but it does seem to be enjoying its little embellishments of the story on top of the original narrative in the book.

Don't get me wrong - changes were always expected and the first season had a fair mix of new things and old things thrown in. But this second season is starting to feel like they felt the need to add a heck of a lot more new things, thus dragging its feet when it comes to the core story as defined in the book. And that's beginning to annoy me to some extent as it does sort of imply that the show is going to take a while before it gets to the main conflict - probably an effort to stretch things for another season or so.

For the most part, the story is still interesting and I'm still eager to see how will happen every week. I still feel justified in subscribing to Amazon's Prime Video service as it has also allowed me and Tobie to enjoy The Expanse together. But American Gods is falling a little short of the mark at this point. Maybe it'll get better and we're just in a mid-season slow down of some sort. But it may not.

Well, at least there's still Good Omens to look forward to.
