02243: Somewhat Offline Holiday

It may seem odd to have a company outing in August, which is right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we intentionally timed it with today's Singapore National Day holiday to minimize work impact. And so despite the rains this week we still headed over to Tali Beach at Nasugbu with high hopes for a good time.

One of the rather significant monkey wrenches thrown into the mix of things was a bi-monthly scheduled power outage set for today. We found out about it mid last week when it was too late to make alternate plans so we obviously pushed through regardless. And so given the lack of power from 07:00am to 05:00pm, we had to make the most of our time without relying on more traditional creature comforts.

So the day has mostly involved staying in the pool, reading books on my Kindle, reading on my Kindle while staying in the pool and a classic all-ihaw boodle fight with the crew. We also did a little exploring of the actual beach area, although I admit I quit a little early given my body is totally not built for more extensive exploring while in sandals.

I will admit it was odd to find myself in a swimming pool again. I can't quite remember the last time I had gone swimming, although the timing feels almost a relationship ago or something. I still don't know how to swim and I'm not a big fan of the sun but today's pool wading given the overcast skies and the lack of electricity actually made sense. Good times.

Thankfully the power came back precisely on time so we have more traditional creature comforts available to us once again. And we have a good dinner to look forward to as well.
