Time and time again I go back to my previous declaration that gaming is an amazingly social activity. And yesterday's game night was a great example of precisely that fact. At a dinner some time ago (gosh was it more than a year?) the conversation had drifted towards mapping out a game night sometime. The friend who had invited us to the dinner was all curious about the different games that we get into. We had discussed possibly scheduling something but things became rather colorful on the home front and so the idea went unfulfilled. But when an opening in the gaming calendar came up for yesterday, we figured it was a good a time as any to get our games on.
We played a lot of games yesterday. The goal was really to expose them to a wide range of games in the time afforded to us. But considering we had started around 07:00pm, we had a lot of gaming time to work with.
The night's games consisted of:
- Takenoko
- Dixit
- Last Night on Earth: Timber Peak
- Fluxx
- Monty Python Fluxx
- Once Upon A Time
- Settlers of Catan
We had also brought along Galaxy Trucker and Fortune & Glory, but unfortunately we didn't have time to play all the games that we had hauled along. If anything, I'd like to think that they had fun, especially given most of them had yet to be exposed to the amazingly creative games that have become rather popular in more recent years. Sure, we've all played games like Snakes & Ladders and Monopoly at least once in their lives, but the games that have been coming out in more recent years really push the limits of what the genre of entertainment appears to be capable of. And so it becomes even more fun to get new players drawn into the fold.
Plus her dogs were just adorable.
