01710: Sleeping Is Hard

So I woke up like 4 hours earlier than I had originally planned. This always seems to be the case - especially when I'm in the middle of a quirky work-related schedule shift. I need to be back at the office by 06:00pm, but I don't think that I'll be able to leave until 06:00am. Perks of the job.

Initially I tried going back to sleep, but I really have a lousy track record for going back to bed. As long as I have at last 4-5 hours of sleep under my belt, my body tends to think that I'm good to go. At times this is pretty helpful when I want to make the most of the day (like during the weekends) since I can push myself further. On the flip side, I'm typically unable to stay awake with ease later on in the day given there's no getting around lacking sleep.

But hey, such are the things that we do to make a living. And given all my geeky expenditures as of late, I really need to make sure that I make the most of things. After all, we toil away in order to do the things that we really want to do.

I think I want to try to take a nap, which is risky as well. And while a nap offers the promise of rest, it also risks turning into full-blown sleep. And oversleeping means possibly being late for work and thus invalidating all this effort put into shifting my sleeping cycle around just to accommodate that work appointment.
