01616: Work Improvement

I took a moment today to plot out all the upcoming tasks, meetings and whatnot that I have to deal with at the office and the list is a tad formidable, to say the least. Then again, it's not like I've had particularly light moments in recent months - things have just sort of been crazy throughout 2013 thus far. Such is life.

But at the same time I don't feel particularly overwhelmed by everything going on. Don't get me wrong - I still feel the stress and anxiety which each coming deadline. But at the same time It's not reaching those stress levels that makes one want to curl into a fetal position and weep openly. So yeah, I guess things aren't quite that bad.

This is probably because (1) I have a good understand of what needs to get done and I'm confident that I can handle it despite the seemingly overwhelming number of tasks associated with these deadlines or (2) there is the added fact that I'm no longer alone in the department and thus I'm able to delegate and share some of these functions in order to get all our ducks in a row. And that's a very good thing indeed.

I'm glad that we didn't just go for the next warm body who could halfway perform the work associated with our department in finding a replacement. My colleague and I have different skill sets and rather complementary working styles and the end result is pretty interesting. Thus the two of us have quickly developed a decent working routine to get through things that is resulting in some pretty positive results.

Plus I'm no longer going crazy trying to do everything alone.
