For the record, this trip has been mapped out to be our longest trip to Singapore to-date. It covers 4 full days of Singapore fun with the another half day worth of travel to and from the island nation. And despite the longer trip time overall, we've managed to accomplish way more than expected over the course of these first two days alone. Brilliant.
Day One was all about Marina Bay Sands. We explored ancient Egypt at the Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb exhibit over at the ArtScience Museum. And that included a special 3D investigation of a mummy as narrated by Patrick Stewart. Then we caught Dirty Dancing over at the Marina Bay Sands Theater, which was pretty good but not as great as we had opened. And we expanded our food horizons by having tea at TWG (I did not realize that there were so many types of tea!) and some great French cuisine over at db Bistro Moderne by renowned chef Daniel Boulud. Pretty awesome stuf - and it's probably our first Michelin Star Restaurant experience to boot!
Today we explored the recently opened River Safari Singapore together with my sister. And while the Amazon River section of the park was not yet ready for business, we still had a heck of a time exploring the other river-themed sections and ending with the amazing Panda enclosure. The Red Panda was quite adorable, but there's nothing quite as magical as seeing real-live Giant Pandas right there. And I'm especially thankful for the zoom capabilities of my little Lumix camera - I left with a number of pretty good shots that looked as if I had been right there beside the pandas while they ate!
And since we had ended a lot earlier than expected given the relatively smaller size of the River Safari compared to the other zoos, we figured it was a good idea to make our way to Orchard Road to get our geek shopping out of the way.
We had a great lunch at Din Tai Fung, probably among my favorite restaurants in Singapore. Then it was a lot of geek shopping up and down Orchard. No trip to Singapore is complete with the required visit to the geek haven Paradigm Infinitum - we left with a ridiculous amount of dice and a few new games to boot! Then Mina helped me get my Hasbro Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime - totally awesome find! We also picked up some Studio Ghibli collectibles over at NBC and then narrowly escaped with just the Zelda book after going around Kinokinuya. We'll get you one day all you gorgeous Studio Ghibli art books!
Now we're feeling really beat and rather full as well after ended up just ordering in. Our legs are in no condition to venture further out for food and so delivery seemed like a viable alternative. We don't have too much "officially" planned for the rest of the weekend so we hope to slow things down a bit in terms of our overall pace. We'll probably check out Chinatown tomorrow or something.
