0143F: Labored Breathing

I didn't go to work last night. The increased humidity or something else to do with the weather has my asthma going bonkers as of late and yesterday was particularly troublesome. Plus my sleep was interrupted a  number of times by asthma-related coughing. making for a lousy rest indeed. I thought that I might still be able to go to work, but the combination of lack of sleep and continuing breathing issues proved a bit too much for me. So I called in sick and just rested for the night.

I think I need to accept the reality that I need to consult with a doctor soon, in order to get full consultation on how to better manage my asthma. I've mostly gotten by with my Ventolin inhaler and the occasional use of Salbutamol tablets. But given increased frequency of my attacks even in comparison to previous colder seasons in years past, I think it may be time to get a formal opinion. This may be potentially pricey. Ugh.

Keeping me company throughout my sick day were Tobie, Yoshi and the first season cast of Star Trek: the Next Generation. Ah yes, a beardless Riker and Wesley Crusher at his most annoying. Quite the odd bedfellows, to say the least.

I'm feeling better now, but it's the daytime. Things tend to get worse as night falls and the weather gets colder. I don't think I can get away from reporting for work tonight, so that's not really an option. There's just too much going on for me to risk being away from the office for two straight days and so I'll have to take that gamble. I may up the dosage of my meds in the interim and see how that goes.

  2. I too dealt with asthma until college. Now I get it when I over-exert myself or during pollen season. The rhinitis is actually what disturbs me the most. I recognize the inhaler you're using because I always have that in my first-aid kit too. I also remember the sleepless nights because of asthma. Like you said things tend to be harder as nighttime when it becomes colder. Get well soon.

    1. Yes, I do realize my overall level of fitness (and the lack thereof) is probably a key factor as well.
