0126A: Clothing Issues

Sleeping at night. Just resting at home. Catching a movie. It's the little things like this that I enjoy the most, and while it seems that I may be "wasting" my vacation time, this is absolute bliss for me. I have nothing against travel - to each his own in this case. I have a heck of a lot more fun here in the city than going to far-flung locations where my access to the web becomes questionable.

Well, mostly staying home and perhaps the occasional O Bar run, hehe.

Tobie and I stepped out for a bit since I needed to get some last-minute banking stuff done and there were a few incidental items that we needed to pick up like coffee filters. And while walking around the malls, it dawned on us that we really need to take some time to buy new clothes for ourselves. In this regard, Tobie and I are very much the same - clothes shopping is driven by practicality more than anything else. Thus I have shirts that date back to high school that I still wear to work and Tobie has his share of shirts that have lived longer than some pets.

It's a funny thing how it seems so difficult to buy clothes. That part of our brains just doesn't seem to work as well or something. If you'd ask me what kind of a shirt I'd want, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you. And that kind of indecision is what often hampers us while at the mall during those limited instances when we have tried to get something new to wear. I can deal with very targeted purchasing goals like needing a certain colored shirt for a work event or for a costume. But beyond that it's just beyond us for some reason.

That would make for a rather weird, but perhaps important, new year's resolution of sorts. The goal: learn to shop for clothes.

On the flip side, I obviously have no hesitations when it comes to celebrating our geekier passions. For example, I felt no issues about resorting to ordering a copy of Hey Mr. Producer! on Amazon and getting the help of Tobie's family to transport it over here because it's been next to impossible to find an original copy here. But it was totally worth every penny - and perhaps the additional pennies that went into buying two other Steven Sondheim DVDs that seemed like good deals at the time of my original order. Oh you evil algorithm driven upsells.

Just today we stepped out thinking of getting original DVD copies of Happy Feet and Se7en that we had seen the day prior but hadn't been sure at the time whether or not we actually had copies of. But in the course of looking around at what they had on hand, we also ended up picking up copies of Fantastic Mr. Fox,Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Elizabeth, and Elizabeth - The Golden Age in one fell swoop. There was a modest amount of hesitation for sure, but nothing like what we experience when we try to buy clothes. Funny thing indeed.

Oh, we also took some time to catch Happy Feet 2, and it seems that the days immediately prior to Christmas are some of the most ideal times to catch movies. Even the normally busy theaters at Gateway were rather empty nor did we have to compete with a bunch of other folks in terms of the general movie ticket queue. The movie itself though wasn't all that fun. Compared to the first movie, it didn't feel as full of music as the first one did and the whole environmental angle seemed a bit more aggressive that it needed to be. While I have nothing against pushing environmentalism in children's entertainment, it should never come at the cost of the integrity of the story. And this movie felt like a bit of a mess for sure. But I'll save my full comments for my Geeky Guide review come Monday or so.

And later, another O Bar Ortigas run! A little more revelry before heading off to the family sounds about right, yes?
