01268: Let The Feasting Begin!

My Christmas vacation leave was approved! While I was pretty sure it was going to happen, I tend to maintain a sense of guarded cynicism when it comes to work-related stuff, if only to keep my expectations reasonable. It helps me from expecting a raise before it's actually been processed or in this case to automatically make extensive plans before I can actually get my leave form signed, sealed and delivered accordingly.

Getting through my last work shift was a bit of a challenge since Tobie and I had joined Urim, Elaine and Jovan for a pre-Christmas dinner at the Hernandez residence in Marikina. It was sort of a last minute thing given the changes in their holiday plans, but it was nice to have been invited at all. Plus Urim had prepared a 6kg ham from scratch along with some crispy pata, macaroni salad and a some other great stuff. Needless to say, it was a generously hearty meal but it was worth breaking my usual diet.

I have to admit that I did feel uncomfortably full after gorging on all that meat - I suppose signs that my body is no longer used to that level of consumption. Even the last time that Tobie and I had gone to a buffet, I had focused on sushi and other fish instead of red meat. So while the ham was good, the not so wonderful feeling of all that richness in my system wasn't quite ideal. I never really thought that could be possible, but then life likes to surprise us that way, I suppose. I just find it interesting that I've been living this somewhat different lifestyle in terms of my eating long enough for my body to start rejecting going back to my previously indulgent ways. And that has to be some sort of an achievement.

Tonight is the big Via Astris Christmas Party over at Discovery Suites. It's a rather grand overnight affair - if you've ever been to a Discovery Suites type of gathering / party then you should know what I mean. It's been quite a while since I've met up with the rest of the Trekkies for something like this and it'll be nice to celebrate the fandom once again. This promises to be another night of more than generous eating as well, but I think I'll try to rein myself in this time. Just in case.

I could probably blog more, but I think I'd rather focus on other things. We have a busy night ahead of us and of course a larger Christmas vacation to take advantage of.

  1. I'm still a rather generous meat eater but something in my body has begun to push me to include a good dose of veggies in my meals. But this ham? Certified dietbreaker. Yum. :P Merry Christmas, Rocky and Tobie! :D

  2. @Chris:
Oh you'll totally feel better should you shift more veggies and less red meat into your diet, I promise. I was skeptical at first, but the results have been tremendous.

But yes, that ham is so irresistible that I fear is has demonic powers. All hail the ham!
