0125F: A Day of Geeky Errands

Based on updates posted on Facebook by our friends, it seems last night at O Ortigas was pretty wild. And as much as I regret our not having gone out to join them, I know my body is definitely needed the break. I'm still feeling under the weather but at least the sniffles have somewhat subsided. My throat is feeling a little dry and raspy at times, so I'm doing my best to keep hydrated to help fight that. But I do feel a bit better today compared to yesterday.

It also helped that Tobie and I had a good massage session last night as well. With everything else going on in my system, a relaxing massage was definitely something that I needed more than I realized. I woke up feeling pretty refreshed even given I'm not quite 100%.

Tobie's still catching up on sleep - apparently he wasn't able to join me in bed right away last night. So I spent the morning addressing some of the geekier "errands" I have here at the Sietch, which includes backing up files to DVDs, photo documenting the unboxing of various Transformers purchased this year (like cute little Powerglide to the right over there), organized some of the newer books that we had purchased recently but were still in bags, and did my best to catch up with the Merlin TV series. For the curious, I've only just started watching season 2, as quirky as that sounds. It's something that I only watch when I have nothing else since it's only mildly entertaining and really bad in terms of accuracy to the original Arthurian legend.

Of all the figures that I've finally opened and played with a bit since early this morning, my favorite so far is the Transformers Universe version of Tankor, who is really an update to the G1 figure Octane. Like his G1 predecessor, he's a triple changer that switches between a cargo plane and some sort of a cargo truck, which generally matches his G1 alt modes. But like many other triple changers, he has awkward transformation configurations that leaves the back of his truck looking weird or leaving him with less than ideal undersides.

But hey, triple changers remain to be a rare thing in the Transformer world and every last one of them deserve to be celebrated to some degree. So "Tankor" not joins the few triple changers I have in my collection - G1 Sandstorm, Animated Blitzwing, and Classics Astrotrain. Whee!

But I'd really love to find is a vintage edition of G1 Sixshot. Oh dear.

Beyond my continuing Transformers obsession, I finally completed the the archiving of my old LiveJournal blog using the back-up services of LJ Book. The site is pretty straightforward - it can back-up your LiveJournal into a PDF version complete with annotations for the hyperlinks, all the comments that exist on the blog and the various songs, tags and all that good stuff attached to the entries. I had been trying repeatedly to back-up my blog but the continued DDoS attacks on the site have tied up some of the other servers that LJ Book needed. But today it finally got through, and I now have more than 8 years of blogging preserved as a 70 MB PDF file. Beautiful.

That leaves the question or whether I just leave my LiveJournal as sort of an orphan until the LJ admins decide to delete it due to inactivity. Or perhaps I should just kill it myself at some predetermined date such as the end of the year or the blog's next anniversary date (as suggested by Tobie).

Okay, I'll be waking up Tobie in just a bit. We have a turbo broiler chicken that has just finished (again his recipe), while I've steamed some alugbati and cooked a pot of brown rice pilaf to go with the meal. Not sure if I want to open a can of corn too, to add to our mix of vegetables accompanying this meal. Or maybe Tobie can prepare a salad.

Regardless, I'm hungry!

  1. At first was thinking, leave it til next anniversary so readers can still comment before you do on one last time. But then i realized you already backed it up, so those last few comments would just be lost.

So I guess leave it online for one last hurrah, but lock up all comment options so any will be posted instead in the new blog.
    Mwah!

Still proud of you love. Blogging daily for this many years is truly an achievement.

  2. Thanks for being so supportive, love.

I'm leaning towards closing it at the end of the year. Would be nice to firmly close that chapter and move on.
